NamibRand was the second place in the world to be designated a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve and its protectors work hard to keep the area pristine. Lodges celebrate the night skies with open-air stargazing suites and night tours where an expert will point out the planets and constellations – you can spend hours lost in the wonders of the universe.

NamibRand was conceived by the late J.A. Bruckner, a German-Namibian who longed to return this desert landscape to its wildest form. He spent years buying up sheep farms, removing fences and reintroducing natural game species, allowing migratory wildlife routes to return. Today, NamibRand covers over 2,000 square kilometres, making it one of Africa’s largest reserves. The focus is on eco-tourism, with limited lodges and only one bed per 1,000 hectares, so you can enjoy uncrowded safaris with trained rangers to glimpse a variety of flora, 150 bird species and everything from gazelles and zebra to baboons, rare big cats and nocturnal beasts like the aardwolf.

Justine is passionate about sharing her knowledge and experience with younger Namibian staff.

Born in Damaraland, Raymond Inichab moved to Swakopmund for school and fell in love with the Skeleton Coast. A visiting American couple introduced him to snowboarding and he eventually got to learn the sport in Germany and Austria. Upon returning to Swakopmund, Raymond established Hata Angu, a tour company specialising in sandboarding trips and cultural tours.

After completing his degree, Mark travelled and surfed his way around the world before settling in Ireland for work, where he started mountain biking. Mark eventually moved back to Namibia, where he discovered fat bikes and launched Swakopmund Fat Bike Tours.
