Taj Exotica, a palm-scored Goan escape

Beautiful landscaped gardens meet a long stretch of white sand and waves…

By Manav Malhotra
General Manager at Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, Goa

We’re situated on the south coast in Goa’s quieter parts. From the main gate you’re immediately hit with a great expanse of greenery; trickling waterfalls, flower-lined patios and landscaped gardens scored with palms that meet a long stretch of white sand and waves. A round of the hotel takes me an hour and 45 minutes – that’s 8,000 steps according to my iPhone – although there are golf carts to take guests from A to B. The 56-acre grounds also make for a lovely cycle ride. In the morning, you’ll likely meet the gardeners harvesting mangos and plucking herbs for breakfast. There’s even enough space for a helipad if you’re that way inclined.

We have a swimming pool, stunning golf course right on the property, and fantastic activities for children of all ages such as cricket (of course) football, and there’s even a giant chess board. Our Taj Kids club is where we encourage children to part ways with their iPads to do things like painting, pottery and just run around the garden. For adults, it’s easy to do a digital detox here with early morning mindfulness sessions and yoga available as well as traditional Indian treatments in the spa.

Our eight suites are most popular, some with sea views, but all our rooms, even the lead-in categories in my opinion are quite spacious. If your villa has a garden, we can always send a chef in or you could request a private dinner at the beach cooked from a live kitchen on the sand. Otherwise, we have three eateries including a Goan/Portuguese restaurant named after one of our chefs, Miguel Arcanjo, where he’ll fire up seafood in the show kitchen. There’s not much we don’t offer here (except for plastic – that’s completely banned). One couple loved it so much, they signed a contract for their daughter’s wedding over coffee on the terrace! I was flabbergasted.
