Tawi Lodge

Amboseli's eco-lodge

Superb staff and charming thatched cottages await at this tranquil lodge at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.

You’ll receive a warm welcome at the tranquil Tawi Lodge. Its location – in the community-run Kilitome conservancy that provides a vital wildlife corridor between Amboseli and the Chyulu Hills – means that as well as promoting harmony between the Maasai people, local wildlife and the environment, it can offer extra activities not permitted in Amboseli National Park, including thrilling night game drives and guided bush walks.

With just 13 cottages, the service is personal and, being located on private land, it's more peaceful than the neighbouring national park.

Why we love Tawi Lodge

  • The conservancy protects a natural wildlife corridor which elephants use to migrate between Amboseli and the Chyulu Hills

  • Tawi Lodge has a Gold Eco-Tourism rating; it’s one hundred percent solar powered and grows its own produce

  • The pool overlooks an active waterhole where animals often come to drink

  • It’s a great honeymoon destination as there’s a spa for massages and the option of candle-lit meals under the stars

The dining area and bar form the focal point of the lodge, with real attention given to meals here. Much of the produce is grown in the fertile volcanic water-fed wetlands, using spices from the nearby Swahili Coast. Dine outside under the shade of huge trees and take in the views of the watering hole where wildlife including zebra, giraffe, and warthogs come to drink, while elephants wallow and play in the mud just metres away.
