Mara Engai Lodge

At one with nature

The cliff-top location boasts stunning views of the Maasai Mara stretching into the Serengeti, especially special during the Annual Great Migration when thousands of zebra and wildebeest can be seen on the plains below.

Mara Engai enjoys a commanding location on the Siria Escarpment, nestled amongst the pristine Kenyan Ravine Forest like a natural wildlife hide. This elevated location offers spectacular views over the wide-open grasslands of the Maasai Mara and its densely populated wildlife. Guests enjoy daily game drives in specially adapted 6×6 Pinzgauer vehicles, via a private road leading directly from the lodge to the gated Mara Triangle. Divided from the rest of the Masai Mara National Reserve by the Mara River, the Mara Triangle is less visited and less crowded, often with many more game animals grazing on the plains and between its unique volcanic hills. Around the lodge, you might spot elephants, giraffe and wildebeest.

Mara Engai has been awarded a Gold Eco-rating with Eco Tourism Kenya, because of their sustainable approach, support of the local community and continual commitment to reducing their carbon footprint. Mara Engai means 'to be one with nature' in Swahili and this is embodied in the philosophy of the lodge. The founders built everything in harmony with the landscape and from wood – there’s a workshop on site where the director trains the local children to make furniture. A big part of their ethos is to give back to the community with education and health projects and most staff are locals, including the driver-guides.
