Anantara Bazaruto

The epitome of island life

A resort-style island escape in Mozambique’s jewel-like Bazaruto Archipelago.

Set along remote, endless sands and dramatic dunes, the Anantara is the only hotel on the Bazaruto archipelago’s largest island. It shares its home with a friendly local community who will happily chat to you about their day’s fishing.  The dazzling mineral-rich waters play host to an extraordinary array of marine life. Spot starfish and hermit crabs in the shallows, while further out you can hope to see turtles, manta rays, dolphins and the rare dugong, as well as humpback whales (August to September) and whale sharks (April to July).

Go sand boarding down gigantic dunes or sailing on a traditional dhow but if all of that sounds rather energetic, the spa caters to every whim. Thanks to the resort’s west coast location, at the end of each day you can watch the sun set over the African mainland.

Why we love Anantara Bazaruto

  • This is the only resort on the idyllic Bazaruto Island

  • Snorkelling and diving is world-class with turtles, whales and dugongs just some of the marine life you may see

  • Learn all about Mozambican food with a cooking lesson

  • After days on the beach, treat yourself to an aloe after sun gel wrap in the award-winning Anantara spa
