Ruzizi Tented Lodge

In harmony with nature

Ruzizi is right in the wild, with birds and animals all around. Ruzizi Tented Lodge occupies a tranquil location on the wooded shores of Lake Ihema, so perfectly nestled within the forest that it’s barely visible from the water. Wooden walkways meander through the trees, connecting a thatched reception and dining area with a large deck extending out over the lake and the accommodation.

Why we love Ruzizi Tented Lodge

  • With boardwalks through the trees and views over the water, enjoy a wonderful stay treehouse stay

  • The lodge blends in completely with the environment. No trees were cut at all during the building – they were incorporated into the design

  • All meals, if the weather allows, are served on the deck outside under the trees and overlooking Lake Ihema

  • 100% of the income is directly invested in conservation and the local community – so a guest’s stay is impactful in securing the future of Akagera National Park

Ruzizi Tented Lodge lies in an area of riverine forest on the shores of Lake Ihema, towards the southern end of Akagera National Park
It’s a 2.5-hour drive from Kigali International Airport

  • Activities

Weather permitting, meals are usually served on the deck – equipped with a central firepit for cooler evenings – with mainly local ingredients used to create delicious African-influenced dishes.

There is a massage room hidden away in the trees.

There are many activities in the park that guests can enjoy, from game drives to hot-air ballooning. You can also see plenty of wildlife, such as vervet monkeys, baboons and bush babies, without leaving the lodge; sometimes, elephants even come to swim in the lake.
