Mount Nelson, A Belmond Hotel, Cape Town

A Cape Town landmark

More than a century of service and style at the foot of Table Mountain, this Belmond hotel is excellence personified.

First opened in 1899, the Mount Nelson blends the gracious living of a bygone age with contemporary comforts. Behind that iconic pale-pink façade you’ll find a warm welcome and a relaxed ambiance. Sat at the foot of Table Mountain, you couldn’t wish for a more iconic location while staying in South Africa. First opened in 1899, this hotel makes a statement with its soft pink exterior surrounded by beautiful gardens of roses and jacaranda trees.

The entire hotel has that distinct Belmond feel to it: timeless, classic and  luxurious. Indulge in afternoon tea, served in the lounge or outside in the lush gardens – where you can also enjoy a picnic hamper in your favourite spot. Book a treatment in the Librisa Spa or take a tour in the pink Kombi van. Drinks are served in the lounge, where you’ll find an à la carte menu, and it’s hard to beat cocktails in the enchanting Planet Bar – a ‘starlit’ experience enhanced by music from a resident pianist.

The Librisa Spa is one of Cape Town's leading day spas. Throughout the spa, care has been taken to use natural ingredients and each visit begins with a wellness consultation, taking into account individual needs. Treatments take place in one of the eight oversized treatment rooms, housed in three original late Victorian buildings. Choose from treatments including facials, massages, salon treatments and signature rituals.

Innovative treatments at the spa include the African Wood body massage, where the treatment mimics African dance rhythms.

The fitness centre is open 24/7.

From garden tours to a coffee and chocolate experience, there are a number of complimentary activities on a daily basis. Painted in pink, the hotel has a Kombi van which can take guests on a foodie tour or down to the surf beaches at Muizenberg.

The Head Chef was a pioneer in his zero-waste approach to food and created a five-course Chef’s Table menu from food offcuts. He sources his produce from a community township farm.
