Garonga – Little Garonga
Intimate and private safaris
Little Garonga Safari Lodge is an intimate property nestled within the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve.
With only three suites set around communal indoor and outdoor lounge areas, this small camp is all about a tranquil safari experience. In-between thrilling game drives out in the private reserve, you can retire to some peace and quiet in the lounge or relax by the swimming pool. Every need is thoughtfully attended to by the team of staff who are at the heart of this intimate camp, making it a brilliant option for families and small groups looking to book the camp exclusively. Meals are served out on open-air decks, at the braai (barbecue) area or in the Main Lounge. There’s also a Boma at Garonga Safari Camp where you can have a traditional bush dinner by a firepit. It’s just two minutes’ to Garonga Safari Camp where guests are welcome to use the facilities such as the massage sala with far-reaching bush views.
A rare find in safari accommodation, the air-conditioning found in the three Suites adds a level of comfort that makes all the difference. There are canopied four-poster beds or twin beds, en suites with bath tubs, indoor and outdoor showers, and a private deck area. Each suite features earthy colours, textured walls and tribal influences to reflect the indigenous, natural environment. For your own private pool, opt for the two-bedroomed Hambleden Suite which comfortably sleeps a family of four.

Unique experiences
Safari for the soul at Garonga
Garonga is located within the Greater Makalali Private Game Reserve. The philosophy here is safari for the soul as guests are encouraged to slow down and absorb the sights and sounds of nature. Spending time with animals and learning about their behaviour is an integral part of what they do. You can join a solitude walk. Walking in complete silence, your guide will point to a plant or insect, but no explanation will be given until you get back to the camp so that you fully immerse yourself in nature without any distraction. You may then wish to spend time on the yoga deck or relax in a hammock to rejuvenate mind, body and soul.
Bathe under an African night sky at Garonga
As part of Garonga's safari for the soul experience, it’s important to be able to unwind and they have created the perfect way for guests to do this. Hidden within the grounds of the camp there are two open-air baths where guests can relax with a loved one under the stars of an African sky. Set up with romantic lanterns, fluffy towels and indulgent toiletries, it’s the ultimate pampering session.
Microlight flight at Garonga Private Game Reserve
Whilst game drives and bush walks are always a popular activity from Garonga Private Game Reserve, seeing the bush from the air provides a whole different experience. You will be flown in a three-axis Bantam microlight which provides a 180-degree aerial perspective. Not only is the flight in a microlight a thrilling adventure, the scenery at Garonga is very dramatic with the Makhutswi River cutting through the open plains with a backdrop of the Drakensberg.
Spend a night under the stars on Garonga’s sleep out deck
A popular activity for guests at Garonga is to sleep out under the stars. Perfect for romantics, the lantern-lit sleep out deck is located a 20-minute drive from the camp. Guests are driven to the sleep out area and as the sun starts to set, a three-course meal is served.
Rooms
There are just three thatched suites at Little Garonga, making it the ideal safari location for families or friends travelling together. The largest is the Hambledon Suite with two bedrooms. The Chiltern and Buckingham Suites have one bedroom with a king-size bed. Each suite has a mini bar and is air-conditioned for those hot African days.
Facilities
Food is an integral part of the safari experience from hearty breakfasts, indulgent afternoon teas and evening dishes of traditional cuisine.
