Offering peace, tranquillity and access to an abundance of diverse natural environments.
Meaning ‘big forest’ in Afrikaans, Grootbos is surrounded by ancient milkwood trees that are the foundation of the remarkable natural environment that envelops this spectacular place. Grootbos Nature Reserve is located within 2,500 hectares of pristine wilderness and is a botanical paradise with 868 plant species identified. Nestled amongst the milkwood forests are two luxurious lodges and two private villas.
Expert guides take you on drives and walks through the Cape floral kingdom and its ancient milkwood forests. The way of life here is all about nature and conservation with daily activities including horse riding, mountain biking and coastal cave explorations. With its coastal location, it’s also a good base from which to go whale watching. Southern right whales can normally be seen here from June to November whether it’s from the coastal cliffs, on a boat ride or from a scenic flight.
