Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim, a beautiful area of India surrounded by mountains and forests.
MAYFAIR Spa Resort & Casino is a good base for exploring Gangtok and the Sikkim area. Set amongst a backdrop of 48 acres of forested landscape, its architecture has been influenced by the temples and monasteries of the region. It’s a resort bursting with facilities including a swimming pool, spa and yoga deck.
There are two restaurants, one of which specialises in Sikkim cuisine. In the evening, you can try the local beverage in the Tongba Bar or head to the resort's casino.
Why we love Mayfair Spa Resort & Casino
-
You are in close proximity to the Rumtek monastery, the largest and most famous in Sikkim
-
The fragant gardens are a haven for hummingbirds, bees and butterflies
-
Breathe in the fresh mountain air with a morning yoga session on the deck
-
For added entertainment, there is a large casino, open 24/7
Facilities
Orchid is the hotel’s main restaurant serving Indian, Cantonese and Continental buffets. If you are seeking a healthy option, the resort also has developed a Macrobiotic Spa Cuisine menu using predominantly organic produce. For a taste of Sikkim cuisine, head to the Jungle Café. Named after the local millet-based drink, Tongba Bar serves cocktails.
Orchid
There are plenty of local and international dishes served at the hotel's main restaurant. Select from the buffet or à la carte menus.
Jungle Café
Open for lunch and dinner, Jungle Café specialises in Sikkimese dishes.
Tongba Bar
Open for evening drinks including the local alcoholic beverage made from millet.
In the Jungle Café, you’ll find Sikkimese food such as thukpa (Tibetan-style noodles) and momo dumplings.
A visit to the resort’s spa is recommended, not least to try the Cloud 9 treatment using flotation beds or for a massage on a zero-gravity bed which replicates the motion of waves lapping onto a beach.
Take in the views across to Kanchenjunga, the third highest mountain in the world, visit the colourful Rumtek monastery or spend time in the resort's sprawling forested gardens.
