A sophisticated country lodge set among some of the best wineries in the acclaimed Margaret River region.

Set by a small lake and perfectly manicured lawns, this classic country house epitomises tranquillity. Those with an appreciation for good food and wine will find themselves among the like-minded here. A ten-minute drive down Caves Road, a popular scenic drive lined with tall trees, takes you to some of the Margaret River region’s best wineries including Vasse Felix, the region’s founding wine estate. The hotel even has an eight-acre vineyard of its own, producing bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and Shiraz exclusively for its guests.

You can devour a seasonal menu of locally sourced produce at the award-winning restaurant, where the wine list brings some of the best bottles from the region straight to your dinner table. If you want to explore the acclaimed Margaret River region, the lodge can guide you with a number of local touring options including winery tours, guided bush walks and whale watching between September and December from nearby Dunsborough and Busselton. The closest beach is just three miles away for a leisurely day by the sea and the sunsets at nearby Moses Rock are incredible.

The lodge’s rooms exude classic country elegance with picturesque views of either the gardens or the lake. Blissfully secluded, Garden View Rooms feature a king-size bed looking out to the indigenous flora while Lake View Suites offer more space and have luxurious en suites with underfloor heating and a separate shower and bath.

Our third stay at Capelodge did not disappoint. Tranquillity abounds in this lovely setting. As always, the lakeside suite was clean and comfortable. The highlight for us on this visit was the dining experience. The wait staff were efficient and friendly. Obviously well trained in hospitality. Iris and Cornelia were especially good at their jobs. Finally, kudos to the chef. All the offerings were beautifully presented and delicious. The latest chef is a credit to Capelodge.

We arrived late and the check in to our room was easy. Woke up in the morning and came out to breakfast. The beautiful smell of ferns just hits you. Cape lodge is set in beautiful surroundings on a lake and is so peaceful. The food is fantastic. Both at breakfast and dinner. On one occasion we had had a large lunch and only my husband ate and they were fine with that. Anything to accommodate. All the staff were lovely with one lovely lady giving me a fantastic home recipe If I am in that neck of the woods again. I would 100% return to cape lodge. I left my jumper in the room they even posted it back to me. Thank you cape lodge. The little things. Xoxo

What should be a stunning luxury retreat feels more like a dated assisted living facility from the 1990s. Cape Lodge has incredible potential to be fabulous. The grounds are gorgeous. The staff is incredibly warm and helpful. And the structure is there. The place just needs a serious renovation. You cannot charge 5 star prices and deliver a 3 star experience. The Margaret River deserves what Cape Lodge could potentially be. Please renovate.
