This fully-revived hotel boasts a central location, fabulous facilities and sweeping 360-degree views of the city.
The Wyndham Grand Athens offers 5-star luxury in the heart of the city. Recently refurbished, it’s ultra-stylish with modern rooms and a seriously swanky rooftop – it’s got a waterfall-style swimming pool, restaurant and bar with 360-degree views of the Acropolis and beyond. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also an endorphin-boosting fitness centre and a spa for mid-sightseeing massages. Location-wise, it’s spot on. You don’t have to venture far to be in the thick of it all, with tick-list sights a walk away. It’s also perfectly positioned next to a metro station for when you want to give your legs a break.

We were there for 4 days, everything about the hotel was great, especially Nikki who gave us a lot of information about the sights of Athens and Anna with a chocolate and strawberry massage for my daughter which was wonderful, Nikki and Anna were very kind and lovely, I was very happy to choose this hotel.

Booked Wyndham Grand Athens through Luxury Escapes. If this is their idea of luxury, they should seriously rebrand to Escape from Luxury. This hotel is not just a disappointment — it’s a health hazard, a customer service failure, and located in a dangerous area that no tourist should ever be sent to. Let’s start with the room: It was filthy. We found hair and food scraps on the floor, urine stains on the chairs, and the room had a strong, unpleasant odour. The bed linen was yellowed and frayed, the towels were torn and should have been used as rags, toothpaste in glass, and the entire space felt like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. Don’t believe me, look at the photos. To make matters worse, the air-conditioning didn’t work, making the room hot and unbearable and I could not breathe or stop sneezing from the dust allergy. We sit here on day 3 our issues still unresolved and too late to move anywhere. And forget the city views or otherwise as I had to shut the curtains because the windows were so dirty, I felt sick looking at the them. This is not 5-star, this is backpacker motel standard. When we raised these issues, the hotel staff were dismissive and rude. Reception ignored our complaints, refused to change our room, and hung up on us when we called back for assistance. One receptionist even said with a smirk on her face, “You can’t expect the hotel to be as clean as your home.” They also refused to speak to Luxury Escapes, leaving us stuck and unsupported. And then there’s the location — something Luxury Escapes conveniently left out. The hotel is situated in a derelict, crime-ridden area surrounded by barbed wire, drug activity, and a constant sense of danger. We genuinely felt unsafe walking outside — day or night — and later found out that tourists are actively advised to avoid this part of Athens. There is nothing grand about the Wyndham Grand Athens — and Luxury Escapes should be ashamed to promote this property under their “curated” Luxury Escapes banner. No one from their team could possibly have stayed here. If this is their standard of luxury, I won’t be trusting them again. Avoid this hotel and think twice before booking anything through Luxury Escapes. This was not a holiday — it was a nightmare.
