A former 16th century monastery with a stunning lakeside location, gourmet dining and panoramic outdoor pool.
This monastery-turned-luxury-hotel has an enviable location on the shores of Lake Orta. Views here are magical with sparkling waters encased by forest-clad hills. The picture-perfect panoramas make it a romantic choice, but it’s also great for families too. Holidays at San Rocco are super relaxing. Pull up a lounger by the pool, sip aperitifs on the terrace, soak up the scenery from the Jacuzzi or tuck into a delicious lakeside lunch. There’s plenty of lake-focused fun to be had here too, from kayaking to sailing to simply strolling with a gelato in hand. For those what-shall-we-do days, the charming Orta San Guilio is moments away, or you can hop on a boat to the beach.

Rooms
There are 66 rooms here, most of which are located in the main building and former monastery. The others can be found in Villa Gippini. They’re all elegant, but the rooms in the main building are slightly more contemporary. The views vary from village to lakeside panoramas. If you’re booking a Classic room, request one on the 3rd floor as they come with a balcony too. Superior rooms are all blessed with a lake view and some even boast a terrace for sunset aperitifs. There is also a selection of themed suites available. The Presidential suite is our favourite. Occupying the first floor of Villa Gippini, it’s got a stunning terrace overlooking the lake, frescoed ceilings and walk-in closets.

Facilities
Food is a pretty fancy affair at the hotel’s restaurant, Teatro Magico. Large arched windows frame the glistening lake, providing the perfect backdrop to lazy lunches and romantic dinners. In spring and summer, you can also dine alfresco on the restaurant’s lakeside terrace. Drinks and snacks are covered at the hotel’s Lounge Bar. It’s cosy and romantic with leather sofas and a fireplace for breezy evenings. Sip coffees or cocktails whilst soaking up views of San Giulio Island.

Head up to the roof garden after a day out on the lake. Soothe your muscles in the Jacuzzi, up your Vitamin D intake at the solarium, or sit back and read in the relaxation area. Massages with a view are also on offer.
A panoramic swimming pool is perfect for refreshing dips and cocktail sips. As well as admiring the lake, you can also dive right in. Kayaks and pedalos are available to rent from the hotel. If you’re longing for a day at the beach, you’re in luck. Located in Pella, Hydrogen Lake Beach is just a few minutes by boat or a 15-minute drive. Here you’ll find a beautiful sandy beach with crystal-clear waters and of course, amazing views.
Sustainability is important to Hotel San Rocco. It’s the first hotel to install a zero-emission hydrogen combustor since the early 2000s. In 2010, the hotel was also certified as the first ICIM environmentally sustainable hotel building. The hotel also uses renewable electricity and has a fully electric zero emission minivan serving guests.
