 Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort

A resort of two halfs

This sun-kissed resort is part family friendly haven, part grown up's Algarve playground.

It might seem like a tall order for a resort to be both exceedingly family-friendly and perfect for an adults-only break, yet Anantara Vilamoura has masterfully executed the kind of resort that makes everyone feel right at home. On one side, there’s a kids’ club, a teens club, and a family pool. On the other, you step into a world of privacy and tranquillity exclusively for adults. Everyone’s welcome at the restaurants, but some of the venues have adult-only times. Add in a sumptuous spa, and three beaches within easy reach, and you’ve got a holiday that ticks a lot of boxes.

Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort is divided in two areas (room types and specific outlets), one that is perfect for families and one that's for adults only. The resort will operate like so during the summer period from Mid April to 31st October. During the rest of the year, all the resorts amenities will be open to all guests.

Why we love Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort

  • The family rooms that have direct access to the pool are brilliant – the kids will love you for choosing one of these. Plus, they come with child-friendly snacks and bathroom amenities.

  • Kids’ buffets and play areas in the restaurants help make mealtimes stress-free. Although if you fancy an adults-only evening, babysitting is available.

  • Cooking classes for children take place daily at Victoria Restaurant from 6.30 pm – perfect for tempting them to try new foods!

  • The resort is close to a handful of golf courses including the Laguna and Millenium courses.

Whilst we love this hotel chain, it was a miss for us this time, to our disappointment. Great things: amazing hotel staff, friendly and welcoming. Fabulous breakfast - amazing selection, lots of fresh fruit, all types of diets considered, lots of variations of what you may have. Restaurants great in general: Ria restaurant has a good selection. And pools are heated. Where it was a miss: when I searched for a hotel I asked AI to help with a hotel that has warm pools and kids activities. Anantara did not come up but the hotels that did were either too far from Faro airport (for our liking) or had pretty bad reviews for being dated or rude staff. So I searched myself and chose Anantara due to our prior experience. Well, as I said, staff in Anantara are wonderful. And pools are heated. But, key thing that we needed were kids activities. Hotel has a kids room and there are lots of kids around, but there are no organized activities or animation, which made this super boring for our daughter. We have rented a car and that helped with finding other amusement for her. But another thing to note is that this hotel has nothing around it for socializing: too far from any villages/little towns. It is a super great place for golfing. Also mind, that easier with a car. Rooms are also slightly dated: gorgeously done but lots of wood which got damaged by floor washing and doors get slightly stuck from wood expanding. Just as additional recommendation: take the bottom rooms with a pool. More expensive but at least you can have your child in the pool non stop and quickly in the room (we didn’t do it but I would do so if we come here again). Sorry, Anantara. We are still your fans, but not in South Portugal.

Returned from the Anantara with my family, rooms lovely and staff are to the standard you expect from such a hotel. The issue arrises from the noise of the golf course work. Our room from 8am if the balcony door was open was very loud, drilling and digging. Its not the hotels fault but they didn't advise to move us to a quiet area. I feel for the price the conrad is superior, this is more of a four star at the anantara. Like others mentioned its not normal anantara standards Bathroom door to the toilet didn't close tight and was always open a jar. Staff had their regulars who they attended to around the pool. We always had to go upto the bar to ask for a menu for lunch or drinks. I filled out the satisfaction survey with my issues and complaints as such and not one member of staff reached out to me. A generic email - we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and improve on your experience in the near future. They did nothing to try and get us back as returning guests. Unless you are getting here on an offer it is not worth the price they ask.

We came for Christmas and we were very excited as have stayed at other Anantara Hotels before and found them amazing. Sadly, this hotel wasn’t at the same level. We have titanium status but had to request all of our benefits multiple times. The staff are amazing, but I think there’s bad management. Was also shocked to be charged €15 to use the Spa at a five star hotel. As mentioned before the staff were wonderful, especially. Vinicius who worked so hard and took great care of us. We tried to raise a complaint with the general manager but he never got back to us even after repeatedly asking for him to. Definitely would not stay again.
