Jungle House

Your fairytale cottage in the Shimla hills

Stay among the forested hills of Shimla in a cottage steeped in history.

Jungle House has been in the same family since 1941, when the current owner’s grandmother the HH Princess Kusum of Bharatpur returned from England at the outbreak of WWII. The property dates back to the 19th century.

Guests love the heritage, privacy and peace of Jungle House. There’s a firepit in the garden where you can have sundowners and sit under the stars; you can enjoy a game of croquet on the lawn or just snuggle up in your suite under a handwoven throw after hiking around Shimla.

Why we love Jungle House

  • The building is made from stone with a wood-panelled roof and large bay windows to showcase the Himalayan peaks and wildflower meadows

  • Jungle House is set at 7,700 feet on Jakhu Hill, Shimla’s highest point

  • Himalayan pheasants graze on the lawn in the mornings and leopards sometimes come to visit

  • The ancient woods are protected by the government and filled with deodar trees

Shimla
It’s just 500 metres from Jakhu Temple and a 30- minute walk from The Mall

Facilities

  • Restaurants & bars
  • Activities

Meals are prepared by the chef, who’s been at the property for 30 years, and who cooks family recipes using local ingredients. The afternoon tea is a favourite, with freshly baked scones, sandwiches, Indian savouries and a selection of teas and coffee.

The nearby Jakhu Temple is a holy pilgrimage site for Hindus and trekking in the mountains is a popular activity, especially when you can return in time for the traditional afternoon tea.
