Banjaar Tola - A Taj Safari, Kanha Tiger Reserve

A rustic-chic safari lodge at the edge of the Kahna National Park, the inspiration for The Jungle Book.

An exquisite mix of rustic charm and understated luxury, the Banjaar Tola is a hidden gem on the edge of Kanha National Park. The lodge is made up of two camps, each consisting of just nine tented suites which feature a private deck with beautiful views out over the Banjar River towards the national park which is located just across the water. All of the 18 suites are raised just above the jungle floor creating the lightest ‘footprint’ possible so as not to affect the local environment. Lounge on your terrace after the sun sets and listen to the sounds of the jungle, or even spot wildlife at the riverside.

Each morning you’re woken with a delivery of freshly-squeezed orange juice, tea or coffee and some home-made biscuits by your butler. Then head out on your morning safari, during which your guide shares their extensive knowledge of the park and behaviour of animals to provide you with the best opportunity possible to spot the park’s large cats, as well as other wildlife. On your return to Banjaar Tola there’ll be time to enjoy the serenity of your suite and a light lunch on your private deck before returning to the park for your second safari of the day (excluding Wednesdays).

We love the dining experiences here, as well as the concept of enjoying dinner ‘anytime, anywhere’. More sociable evenings can be spent at the lodge’s main dining area which features a river-side terrace; there are often traditional singers and dancers providing some authentic local entertainment. If you are looking for a more intimate experience you can opt for a private candle-lit dinner in a variety of secluded settings.
