Spice Village – A CGH Earth Hotel

Eden found in Thekkady

Spice Village is a wonderful eco-friendly property.

One of the hotel’s unique aspects is its close proximity to the Periyar Tiger Reserve where you can embark on all sorts of naturalist-led activities including forest walks, bamboo river rafting and even night trekking. The park is home to 120 bird species, Malabar giant tree squirrels and elephants. It's also worth visiting the Interpretation Centre which is filled with exhibits on the local flora and fauna of the region. After taking a spice plantation tour, learn the skills of how to use them with a cookery lesson with the chef or try a treatment in the Ayurvedic centre or cool off in the chemical-free swimming pool.

Why we love Spice Village – A CGH Earth Hotel

  • You are surrounded by nature and will be woken by birdsong

  • The organic farm grows plenty of vegetables and spices and instead of sugar they use jaggery in meals

  • They support the local community and have trained ex-poachers into naturalist guides

  • In the evening, head to the old-fashioned bar and challenge the Activity Coordinator for a game of billiards on the 100-year-old table

The backwaters can be reached from Cochin airport which is a reached by an 11½-hour flight from the UK (not including stopover time). Munnar is reached by a 6-hour drive from Cochin.
