Taj Connemara

A charmingly elegant window into the past

Steeped in history, Taj Coonemara has been serving guests for over 100 years.

Taj Coonemara is named after Lord Coonemara, the governor of Madras from 1886 and became the meeting place for royalty and dignitaries from all over the world. Carrera marbled floors, original lattice ceilings and a grand wooden staircase are just some of the features preserved for today’s visitor.

Delve into the history of the hotel on a heritage walk, where you will see sepia photos of the many royals and celebrities that have stayed before you. Other facilities include a swimming pool, fitness centre and the J Wellness Circle.

Why we love Taj Connemara

  • It doesn’t feel like you are in the heart of Chennai because of the spacious interiors and the greenery outside

  • Previous owners have left their influence - expect colonial, Art Deco and modern tropical Geoffrey Bawa's styles throughout

  • Opt for a colonial room for high ceilings, four-poster beds and balconies overlooking the pool

  • As part of the Taj group, the service is excellent and discreet

Chennai international airport is a 10-hour flight from the UK.
Taj Connemara is just 200 metres from Spencer Plaza Mall and a 15-minute walk from Government Museum Chennai
It’s a 50-minute drive to the International Airport
