Emerald Maldives
Cool and contemporary but wonderfully down to earth, this Italian-owned and subtly Asian-inspired retreat is one of our new favourite islands.
It might be a bit clichéd to describe a resort as having something for everyone, however, this Leading Hotel of the World is one of those spots where it can be forgiven. You could take your family here as there are plenty of great sports facilities, free non-motorised watersports, a kids’ club and some wonderfully spacious villas. The vibe here is glitzy but with a rustic edge. We love the softening bamboo, natural stone and wicker design details as well as the thatched roofs of the villas, public areas and spa.

Rooms
There are 120 villas – 60 on the island and 60 over the water. Opt for the Family Beach Villa with Pool if you’re bringing the children along – or head here for a week or two if it’s just the two of you. For couples, our go-to villas would be a Beach or Water Villa with Pool, while the huge Royal Beach Villa and Presidential Water Villa are a great choice if there’s a group of you travelling together. They have a unique pool that brings the outside in to the comfy but cool living area as well as a huge terrace that leads directly on to the beach or into the lagoon respectively.
These villas overlook the resort’s private marina and the seaplane arrival jetty but don’t have direct access to the beach. They do have a 15m² pool so are a good-value choice if you would like your own swimming pool.

This is the resort’s most incredible villa. It’s located at the far end of the over-water pier. It’s surrounded on three sides by the turquoise waters of the lagoon and it features two king-size bedrooms and a huge living room. Like the Royal Beach Villa, the pool has an inside/outside design.

Facilities
Days begin in the best way possible: with a fulfilling breakfast at Aqua Restaurant, the main dining venue that’s just steps from the beach. We’re big fans of the Beach Club Grill Restaurant where lazy lunches and under-the-stars dinners are served. Amazònico brings the taste of Central and South America to the Indian Ocean each evening with succulent meat served from the skewer; there’s an à la carte menu where dishes are available at a supplement but you can dine here – and at the Asian restaurant Le Asiatique – as part of the Deluxe All-Inclusive package.

Bali’s thatch-roofed spas are the inspiration behind the Emerald Spa. It’s hidden away in the island’s verdant interior and is surrounded by tropical palms; you’ll feel miles away from the rest of the world. We highly recommend treating yourself to one of the Ayurveda-inspired treatments like the Asian head massage or the Abhyanga massage where medicated herbal oils are used to aid sleep and reduce stress.
Emerald Maldives Resort & Spa is a haven for families seeking some down time. The Family Beach Villas with pool are the go-to villas as they have a master bedroom and a second bedroom with twin beds. They’re just a few steps from the white-sand beach and feature a cooling plunge pool on the terrace. Children between the ages of 4 and 12 can make the most of the Dolphin Kids’ Club. The club has both indoor and outdoor areas, a pool and a kids’ restaurant and there are plenty of activities on offer.

The resort is in a great location and is stunning. We stayed in an overwater villa which was comfortable and elegant with panoramic views over the ocean. The restaurants were all good. We particularly enjoyed the Aqua and Beach restaurants. Best of all was the friendliness and attention of all the staff.

Maldives Emerald Pasmendu is the best resort in the Maldives!! All the food was delicious and all the staff were kind, so I had a very pleasant and satisfying honeymoon. Especially Shafi, who was our butler, was the best butler. Very kind and sensible. If I come back to the Maldives, I want to meet Shafi then.

In March, my spouse and I had the most incredible honeymoon at **Emerald Resort & Spa** for six nights. From the moment we arrived in the Maldives to the seamless transfer to the resort, everything was impeccably arranged. The resort staff was extremely attentive, making sure our journey was smooth and stress-free. The seaplane transfer was well-organized, and the moment we stepped onto the island, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff. Our dedicated butler, **Shafi**, greeted us with a "Hello" in Korean and ensured that we had a smooth check-in process while introducing us to the resort's amenities. We stayed **two nights in a Beach Villa** and **four nights in a Water Villa**, each offering a unique and memorable experience. The **Beach Villa** was private and provided easy access to the ocean, making it an ideal spot for snorkeling. On the other hand, the **Water Villa** was nothing short of a paradise, allowing us to wake up to stunning ocean views and take a swim directly from our deck. Both accommodations were spacious, immaculately maintained, and beautifully designed, complete with a well-stocked minibar, complimentary champagne, and a fruit platter upon arrival. Dining at Emerald Resort exceeded our expectations. We had the opportunity to try various restaurants, each offering unique and exquisite cuisine. **Aqua Restaurant**, **Beach Club Grill**, **Asiatique Restaurant**, and **Amazonico Restaurant** all provided exceptional dining experiences. The **honeymoon dinner on the beach** and the **teppanyaki show at Asiatique** were highlights of our stay. The sommeliers recommended excellent wine pairings, which enhanced our meals even further. Among the many activities we enjoyed, the **Coral Garden snorkeling tour** stood out the most. We felt like we were floating through an otherworldly underwater paradise, surrounded by vibrant marine life. We were incredibly lucky to spot sea turtles twice! Although we couldn’t see dolphins on the **Lucky Dolphin Cruise**, the boat ride itself was a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Additionally, the **honeymoon couple’s massage** and a **professional photo session** made our trip even more special. Throughout our stay, every staff member greeted us with warm smiles, ensuring that we felt welcomed and comfortable at all times. Shafi, in particular, went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed, making our honeymoon truly unforgettable. For anyone considering a honeymoon or a luxury getaway in the Maldives, **I highly recommend Emerald Resort & Spa**. The breathtaking scenery, top-notch service, and extraordinary experiences made this a trip of a lifetime for us. We will cherish these beautiful memories forever.
