W Maldives

A luxury playground

In 2025, W Maldives emerged from a glamorous top-to-toe renovation, re-establishing it as one of the most sought-after resorts in the Maldives.

Harnessing a sense of rebellion the ‘W’ brand has always been known for, there’s a contemporary swagger to W Maldives that’s a departure from many traditionally styled Maldivian resorts. That’s not to say it’s a party island, but it invites a little camaraderie if that’s what you’re looking for. The pursuit of injecting some zing in the styling doesn’t mean you miss out on tropical island touches – W Maldives still has all the hallmarks of a quintessential Maldivian retreat, just with a touch more verve than most.

Why we love W Maldives

  • There are 77 villas here, cleverly designed to feel completely private and ideal if you want an escape that feels utterly exclusive. Still, there are enough villas here to create a sociable atmosphere when you’re ready to mingle

  • The mature house reef is a snorkeller’s dream – go prepared to be mesmerised by the kaleidoscopic sea life that calls this lagoon home. There’s incredible night snorkelling available, too

  • All the villas have private swimming pools with comfy daybeds and sun loungers, so you might find you seldom emerge from your paradisiacal bubble. Overwater villas have direct access to the house reef and lagoon, too

  • There are five distinctive restaurants and bars, giving you plenty of dining options throughout your holiday, whether you want something tropically casual, or want to enlist the help of the concierge team to plan a dining experience to remember

There are five places to eat and drink across the island, and the restaurants feel special without being pretentious – you can glam up or dress down, anything goes. If you’re celebrating (or just fancy pushing the boat out) ask the ever-helpful concierge team to arrange dinner on W Maldives’ private castaway island, Gaathafushi.
