Cinnamon Grand Colombo

A capital home from home

This spacious modern hotel is a welcoming city-centre bolthole with an excellent variety of restaurants and bars.

Cinnamon Grand Colombo has been designed with convenience in mind. That starts with the location in Kollupitiya, Colombo’s business, shopping and entertainment district, which means that many places you might want to visit are close at hand. That said, this large, mid-rise modern hotel has an array of facilities that make it tempting to stay put – including a shortcut to the shopping centre next door – and a warm atmosphere that’s apparent the moment you step into the elegant glass-domed lobby.

Why we love Cinnamon Grand Colombo

  • It has an excellent location in the heart of Colombo not far from Beira Lake and the sea

  • There’s a great choice of restaurants, lounges and bars featuring cuisines from around the world

  • Facilities in the wonderfully leafy grounds include two swimming pools

  • Cinnamon Hotels is known for friendly service and that’s certainly the case here in its flagship property

You’ll find the flavours of the world in Cinnamon Grand Colombo’s impressive selection of restaurants and bars, and every eating style from a quick lunch to leisurely fine dining.

Plates
The main buffet restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offers what it calls “a culinary tour of global cuisine”. There’s also an à la carte menu and a special kids’ menu.

Noodles
The emphasis at this buzzy lunch and dinner venue is on fast and flavoursome East Asian dishes with a local twist.

Chutneys
Find South Indian cuisine at this authentic eatery, where you can sip masala chai to round off a midday or evening meal of spiced vegetarian dishes.

The London Grill
Colombo’s oldest fine-dining restaurant is a dressy affair, with traditional service, a gourmet menu with a decided French flavour, and a wine list to match.

The Lagoon
The hotel’s lively seafood restaurant (open for lunch and dinner) is the place to sample the catch of the day cooked to your taste, with Sri Lankan, Indian, Thai and Chinese influences to the fore.

Nuga Gama
This rustic al fresco eatery is designed to evoke a typical village and serve delicious traditional Sri Lankan food cooked by local cooks.

Breeze Bar
For drinks and lighter bites from 10am until midnight, Breeze Bar has a relaxed poolside setting and table barbecues.

Tea Lounge
This elegant all-day venue complete with a resident pianist is open from 7am to midnight. It serves Sri Lankan breakfast, daytime snacks and afternoon tea before changing into a whiskey lounge in the evening.

Cheers Pub
Feeling a little homesick? This wood-panelled bar is inspired by traditional British pubs and has draught beer, sport on the television and, less traditionally, a children’s play area.

Coffee Stop
Open from 7am until late, Coffee Stop is perfect for a quick caffeine hit and something to go with it, from macarons and chocolates to a sandwich.

Perhaps the most charming dining spot is Nuga Gama, the rustic “village in the city” where authentic Sri Lankan home cooking is served up under the stars, overlooked by a venerable banyan tree.

Head to NIJA Luxury Wellness for holistic therapies, massages and Ayurvedic treatments. The hotel has two state-of-the-art fitness centres with a full complement of cardio machines and free weights, plus a sauna and steam room for post-workout recovery. Outside, there’s two swimming pools.

Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts proudly launched its latest sustainability initiative, “Cinnamon Rainforest Restoration Project” aimed at restoring a degraded 50-acre plot of forest land situated in the buffer zone of the Sinharaja Rainforest over a period of three years. The project which is a part of the Group’s long-standing commitment to biodiversity conservation, is expected to not only enrich the ecological significance of the region but also create a habitable environment for the birds and other endemic species. Take a tour round the little organic farm, which adds their status as Asia’s first carbon neutral venue.

There’s room for an extra bed for under 11s in the rooms, child-pleasing food options and things to do.

The Cheers Kids’ Club is right next to the Cheers Pub and offers a range of supervised activities, plus games, films and books.
