 Karpaha Sands

For that off-the-map feeling

This is a place for long lost afternoons and paperback novels on blonde-white sands. A luxury ‘leave your shoes at home’ experience that’s mellow, mindful and perfect for post safari R&R.

Wake up to the gentle sounds of ocean waves almost touching your feet as you stroll over to the beachfront restaurant for red velvet pancakes or to the pool for a pink sunrise swim.

As with many shoulder-dropping escapes, this spot is accessible via an adventurous drive from the main road, but the beach is the most beautiful we’ve seen on the east coast. Except for a few other guests, you’re pretty much castaway, albeit in more luxury than Tom Hanks ever was. Elegant, tented suites laced with handcrafted furniture boast four-poster beds, indoor bathroom with bathtub, outdoor showers and a butler at your service. By day, you borrow body boards and bicycles, watch fishermen haul in their nets using the centuries-old “Madella” technique and indulge in a spa treatment that inspires well-being. By night, there’s artisan popcorn and movies under the stars, bonfires, private beach dinners and rosé in hand for lantern lit strolls along soft sands.

Why we love Karpaha Sands

  • If you dream of ditching your devices, sleeping by the ocean and watching movies on the beach, this hidden gem will tempt you to extend your stay

  • It’s pitch-perfect glamping. Tented suites are high spec, very spacious and gorgeous

  • Enriching experiences include an outdoor cinema under the stars, feet-in-the-sand private destination dining, bonfire, a Culinary Discovery Class where you’ll join the Chef to cook in traditional clay pots as he reveals invaluable tips, and many others

  • Stand-up paddles, two-seater kayaks and bicycles are all available for exploring local villages, temples, markets and bays

Menus are vibrant and offer a large variety of creative dishes with locally-sourced ingredients and fresh seafood including lobsters, crabs and king prawns caught by the local fishermen of Kalkudah. There are different lunch and dinner menus, a menu for children, for vegetarians and vegans too. A-la-carte dining (no buffet).
