 Cinnamon Citadel Kandy

Misty mountain vistas

In a beautiful setting by a river on the edge of Kandy, this peaceful bolthole is a great base for exploring Sri Lanka’s second city.

With good facilities and a great atmosphere, the Cinnamon Citadel Kandy climbs terraced slopes on a riverbank and is a lovely place to relax after sightseeing. Even though this is a city hotel, you’ll feel as though you are far away from the bustle, yet you will be just a short drive from the heart of Kandy and its famous sights such as the Temple of the Tooth and the beautiful botanical gardens – this is really the best of both worlds.

Why we love Cinnamon Citadel Kandy

  • With its tranquil riverside location, it’s hard to believe the heart of Kandy is just 20 minutes away by car

  • The design makes the most of the hillside setting, with superb river views from the public terraces and the rooms

  • A carefully curated range of experiences includes energetic mountain hikes and gentler options such as garden visits

  • The light-filled main restaurant is a great place to start the day thanks to its generous buffet and impressive mountain views

You’ll find plenty of variety in the main buffet restaurant, and there’s a second eatery and a bar with a snack menu.

Panorama
The appropriately named main restaurant overlooks the Mahaweli River and has beautiful views of the mountains beyond. Dishes from around the globe are served in a buffet style, with live cooking stations to add a touch of theatre.

Café C
For equally stunning river views, there’s the intimate Café C close to the water’s edge. It serves modern fusion cuisine à la carte alongside inventive cocktails at lunch and dinner.

Lounge Bar
This open-air venue close to the pool has a laidback atmosphere and a comprehensive menu of drinks and snacks.

There are several destination dining experiences – our favourite is the option of traditional afternoon tea on a boat on the Mahaweli.
