 Elephant Stables

A historic address

From its hush-hush hilltop setting, this beautiful seven-bedroom boutique hotel watches over the colourful chaos of Kandy.

This historic address, all quiet luxury and teak furnishings, is named after the elephants that used to graze on its lawns. You’ll find guests swimming in an outdoor pool that almost touches climbing trees and clinking glasses at sunset, seduced by views over Kandy’s hills. Rooms and suites are understated but elevated in design, with teak four-poster beds and huge windows letting tropical air waft in. Be the cat who got the cream with an upgrade to The Royal Luxury Suite, equivalent in size to a two-bed apartment and Sri Lanka’s largest ever tented bedroom.. Evenings are spent snuggling in the living room with classic movies and board games whilst the kids jump around on the space hopper, or padding over to the bar for a signature cocktail, jestfully called The Elephant UNstable.

Why we love Elephant Stables

  • The cooler climate and cracking location make it easy to tick off Kandy’s Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and the Sea of Milk.

  • Your letter-perfect location, 15 minutes drive from Kandy, makes Hill Country tea estates and Cultural Triangle tours a breeze.

  • This is a casual but plush pad to place your head. With the pool, garden lounge, reading room and living room, everything feels classy but chilled.

  • It’s a firm family favourite, not only for the wow-factor jumbo-sized tent, but also offering additional beds in the other suites so the whole tribe can be accommodated.
