The ideal spot for some restorative downtime close to the airport to bookend your Sri Lankan adventure.
Uga Riva is a splendid historic manor house in a lovely, secluded location. Formerly a family home, the ornate white façade, topped with a terracotta roof and timber shutters, has been carefully preserved over its 180-year history, updated, of course, with all the amenities expected by modern travellers. You’ll go here for a night or two of tranquillity, to recharge for whatever your itinerary has lined up next, whether your adventure is just beginning, or you’re treating yourself to a couple of nights of downtime before the end of a holiday.
Why we love Uga Riva
-
It’s just 30 minutes from the international airport, making it an ideal stopover before or after a long flight
-
There’s a real warmth to the hospitality here, and the service is personable and considerate
-
Dining is easy going, with an informal, all-day-dining approach. Simple and delicious dishes range from fresh salads to local stir fries and Negombo curries
-
There’s a small pool that beckons for quiet days with a good book beneath a parasol
Rooms
The rooms have a mix of classic and contemporary finishes, with crisp white linens against carved dark wood furniture, giving them a chocolate-and-cream appeal. There are three room types, with size being the main differentiator. For something a touch more fancy, Superior Rooms and Premier Suites have four-poster beds.
Facilities

Dining is a relaxed affair. Decide whether you’d prefer to eat in the house or in the tropical gardens – things are very flexible here. On the menu, there’s a good selection of light bites and bigger dishes like curries and local specialities.

Uga Riva was the best beginning of our trip. After a long flight we could relax at the swimming pool. It's far away from the bustling Negombo so it's very quiet in the beautiful garden. Also the food was very good! We recommend this as the start of your Sri Lanka roundtrip!

Wow, we were so glad to have chosen to stay here before departing Sri Lanka. This place is Colombo's best kept secret. Wonderful villa with wonderful staff. The villa is a converted private home with all the heritage elements preserved and enhanced by the tasteful decor. The grounds were beautiful and immaculately kept. Every angle of the villa and every corner of the property was an instagram worthy picture. The rooms were luxurious and comfortable and kept cool for August which is greatly appreciated. Service was top notch and everything is customized for each guest, eat when you want, eat what you want, everything is on request. Our butler (Lahiru) and his team were very accommodating, eager to please and very sincere - all thanks to the wonderful manager Asanga who met us on arrival and clearly has a great rapport with his staff. We were completely spoilt on our 1 night stay prior to leaving Sri Lanka, a perfect end for a quick getaway. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Used this at the beginning and end of a tour of Sri Lanka. Perfect greeting after a 14 hour flight at 3 in the morning - there's your room we can sort the paperwork out in the morning. Nice room, nice pool and good food. Service was excellent throughout our stay. I've seen reports of people complaining of airport noise, yes it's near the airport but the noise is not intrusive and flights are infrequent. Highly recommended.
