 Hilton Yala Resort

Elevated wildlife resort

See the Sri Lankan bush the luxury way. Indian Ocean views and safaris with five star reviews. Villas with private pools and a wild beach location where elephants sometimes wander.

Hilton Yala is the sleek way to do a Sri Lankan safari. You’re in the experienced hands of a big brand but with just 42 rooms, there’s a real personable feel. Bedrooms are the kind that make you want to stay for a week longer than you planned; high-tech, drop-dead gorgeous and inspired by nature. Go ground floor for a private plunge pool and upper floor for a balcony and jacuzzi. Your location is superb, on a wild Indian Ocean beach nail bitingly close to the southern edge of Yala National Park. Everything here feels like a lottery win. Asian and Western restaurants (the buffalo curd cheesecake is chef’s kiss), a beautiful pool, a neat spa and safaris that are simply splendid. The hotel’s FGASA trained guides are some of the most in-demand safari guides in the travel industry. They bring the trailblazing cameras, zoom lenses and binoculars, even taking photos for you (they’ll send them on) so you can put away your phone and stay focused on the surprises that lay ahead.

Why we love Hilton Yala Resort

  • The all-inclusive option is the best move to make for the included game drive each day. The possibility of sharing first light with a leopard or sunset with a sloth bear is something else.

  • Wild animals including elephants and boar enter and exit the hotel grounds freely since you are in Yala's buffer zone and there’s a wildlife track running through the property.

  • It’s not just safaris. There are sand dune sunset walks, clear-sky star gazing nights and diving at the Great Basses.

  • Everything here is postcard pretty - the pool, the restaurants, the spa - and the emphasis is on high quality and personalised service.

There are two restaurants and a coffee and cocktail bar. All are exquisitely designed in earthy tones and feel like stepping into an interior designer’s den.

Vanya
This is your all-day port of call for meals, snacks, coffee, tea, fine wines and cocktails. Floor-to-ceiling windows and sundowners every day. Yes please.

Dhira
This is Asia on a plate with an interior to match. A beautiful place to come after a day of adventure. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Sandali
There’s more of a Western influence at this all-day dining venue, with grilled meats, steaks and burgers their specialities.

Lanthaaruma
Celebrate a special occasion or just celebrate your holiday. This destination dining option is the bespoke way to end the day with an alfresco feast lit by lanterns. Enjoy dinner and sommelier-chosen wines somewhere rather beautiful between lush jungle and the lapping of Indian Ocean waves.

What's Included

All Inclusive • Breakfast, lunch and dinner at Dhira • Selected wine by the glass, non-alcoholic drinks, teas, coffees, smoothies, shakes, beers, aperitifs, spirits, whiskeys, liqueurs, signature cocktails and arrack cocktails

This small resort packs a mighty punch when it comes to wellness. The huge meandering outdoor pool is backed by cocooning sunbed pods, the streamlined back-to-nature spa comes with a tantalising menus of treats and the fitness centre looks as aerodynamic as the equipment it offers, which includes free weights, elliptical machines and treadmills.

Just off the coast of Yala National Park, dive the most thrilling of Sri Lanka’s sites. The Great Basses is a truly special underwater ecosystem of corals, shipwrecks, grey sharks, angelfish, snappers and rays.

The great outdoors is a great classroom for kids, and Hilton Yala adds a new dimension to their safari trip offering a Junior Ranger Programme run by experienced guides for children aged five to twelve. Intrepid little adventurers learn immersively about Yala’s biodiversity and receive a badge to honour their new found skills.
