This eco-friendly boutique is the only address you need for chance to see Udawalawe’s elephants.
This is the one to choose if you prefer a low-impact, hyperlocal hideaway to a gated and gold-plated big resort. From the moment you’re welcomed with a Belimal iced tea to that first kayak among the kingfishers, your stay will be authentic and transformative. There are places for thinking and drinking; hello hammocks on the river deck, scenery-gazing infinity pool and sundowners on a terrace scented by earthy spices that grace the restaurant menu. Then there are wild and wonderful places you’re magicked to; a safari in Udawalawe, rubbing shoulders with orphaned elephants at the Transit Home and cooking over the woodfire with locals. Waraka is pure joy. A 12-room sustainable hotel named after the 21 enormous Jackfruit trees on its one acre of land.

Facilities
The restaurant and bar have fantastic lake views and are open from 7am until 9.30pm**.** The restaurant is named after a traditional Sri Lankan baby jackfruit curry often called Polos curry or Polos ambula. And of course, surrounded by giant jackfruits, they are the star of the menu. Look out for jackfruit mixed mocktails, cutlets and desserts. Polos menu spans local favourites and Western dishes too.
