Las Vegas, Hawaii & San Francisco
Casinos, beaches, and bays: two wildly contrasting city breaks with a tropical holiday sandwiched in the middle.
Start your trip in style with a few nights in the incredible, one-of-a-kind Las Vegas. It’s the perfect city to get you into holiday mode before flying to Hawaii. These idyllic islands are ideal for a relaxing, post-Vegas break, but there are plenty of entertainment options if you want more nightlife. Then, you’ll hop to Maui to unwind on palm-fringed crescent beaches. Your route home takes you via San Francisco to finish your trip, exploring a magnificent city with iconic sights like the Golden Gate Bridge to feast your eyes on.
Maximising your stopovers to and from Hawaii
Itinerary overview
Las Vegas
Start in style
You’ll need to break up the flight from London to Hawaii, and Vegas is an unbeatable place for your first stopover. It kicks off your trip in unparalleled style, dazzling you with bright lights and big sights. Walking through the hotels in Las Vegas is a truly fascinating experience: the scale of the spaces, the music, the buzz of the casinos – you might even find yourself strolling beside a Venetian canal. If you want to explore more, there are plenty of tours available. You can take a helicopter ride to soar above The Strip or venture out to witness the colossal scale of the Grand Canyon.
Oahu
Onwards to Hawaii
Leave Vegas behind and fly west to Hawaii. Most hotels are nearby in Waikiki, where you can stretch your legs along the lively Kalakaua Avenue, a palm-lined boulevard of shops, bars, and restaurants, after a short transfer from Honolulu airport. Relax by the pool or head to the beach – a holiday in Hawaii might appear to be all about downtime. But when you’re ready to stir from your lounger, follow the Diamond Head Crater Trail – it only takes around an hour to walk, and you’re rewarded with beautiful views. Hire a car and discover historic Pearl Harbor, or learn about Hawaii’s heritage at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
Maui
The Valley Isle
Hop over to Maui to unwind. The five crescent beaches in Wailea in South Maui are especially beautiful. Hiking trails weave through national parks if you feel more actively inclined. Wailea is a coastal town known for its luxury resorts in Maui's sunniest, driest area. Take a scenic stroll through the Wailea Coastal Walk and swim and snorkel around Ulua Beach Park. And if you’re a golfer, you’ll love the world-class courses here. We highly recommend hiring a car to get the most out of your time in Maui.
San Francisco
End the trip on a high
Instead of flying straight home, go via San Francisco and finish your holiday with a city break in this remarkable city. Set on steep hills still traversed by nostalgic and clanging cable cars, San Francisco is a heart-stealer of a city. There’s so much to see and do in San Francisco—spot sea lions at Fisherman’s Wharf on the way to sample farm-fresh produce in the Ferry Building Marketplace. Take a trip over to Alcatraz for an atmospheric tour of this former prison island and visit the museums in Golden Gate Park. Perhaps you’ll want to add an extra day or two to spend time in beautiful Napa Valley – it’s achievable in a day trip from San Francisco.
