Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge
Connection and community
Rhino Ridge was the first private lodge in the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park.
Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge was built on Mpembeni land whose community are part shareholders of the lodge. It’s this unique relationship which makes this place so special.
The lodge is perched above the treetops, overlooking undulating hills, the river and waterholes. Rhino Ridge is slick yet seamlessly fits into the scenery with light-wood panels, local craftwork and a palette that mimics the savannah. It’s the perfect place to decompress after game drives. The infinity pool seems to topple off into the savannah and the spa overlooking the waterhole is the perfect antidote to a day spent on safari.
Why we love Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge
-
There are a variety of ecosystems including wetland, woodland, grassland and open savannah
-
The two honeymoon villas are spectacular, each with a plunge pool on the private deck
-
There is a special bottle of wine that whenever one is purchased, a percentage goes to the anti-poaching unit
-
Signature treatment sat the spa include the Rhino Rumble and the Warthog Wallow
Unique experiences
Safari activities at Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge
Due to the park’s world-renowned white rhino conservation, the primary reason to come to Rhino Ridge Safari Lodge is to see the Big Five. Two game drives per day plus bush walks will provide plenty of thrilling encounters. The diverse topography in Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park lends itself to a variety of animals. On one side you have the river and its surrounding green hills where the shy black rhino resides. To the right, it’s more savannah landscape, preferred by cheetah who can sprint on the wide-open flat spaces.
Conservation at The Isibindi Foundation
Through the Isibindi Foundation, the moment you step foot in one of the Isibindi lodges, you’re involved in community-based projects first hand. Projects that are funded by the lodges include education programs at local schools and creches, anti-poaching units and beach cleaning in the iSimangaliso Wetland Park.
Facilities
After safaris you’re treated to hearty dishes; venison, oxtail and local-style grilled chicken with pap (maize) chips and ethically sourced ingredients such as stone-ground flour and desert salt.
Absorb the healing benefits of nature with a treatment in the spa. As you are being pampered you may also see a passing giraffe or elephant. Many of the ingredients are sourced from the African bush.
On game drives and bush walks, you may encounter the Big Five, hippos, giraffe, cheetah and zebra. Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park has over 400 bird species identified.
Children from the ages of 3 to 6 years will be taken on their own morning game drive. There are two Family Rooms consisting of two rooms and adjoining lounge.
Children under the age of 6 are not permitted on the afternoon or evening game drives.
