An African palace

Grand, elegant and palatial, this impressive hotel has been inspired by the myth of a lost African kingdom. Rising like a mirage from the green landscape, it’s a fantastic place to stay for all ages. It's home to one of Africa's greatest water parks and there’s a real emphasis on adventure, with Pilanesberg Game Reserve, Kwena Gardens (crocodile sanctuary) and a zip line nearby. Yet there’s also a sense of relaxation with tranquil gardens laced with trickling streams.

Hmm... We come a long way.. Still the best resort to visit in Africa with so much to do... After 2 years since my last stay, the property had some developments... Check in process was fast and efficient. Rooms were ready one hour before check in time. Had welcome drinks in beautiful elephant shape glasses. Whoa. Wish I could take some home. Rooms were spacious and fresh. Bathroom and room furniture were modern and created a homey atmosphere. Shower gels and shampoos were terrible in opening. Surely you can consider easy cap openings as aluminium tubes are hard to open once hands are wet. Breakfast was great as always with smart layout to avoid crowding. Dinner options were vey limited since the Grill room bookings are very limited. Could not get space for 2 nights in a row. Really bad if you opt for formal dinner instead of room service and selected buffet nights. I'll recommend allowing check in guests to have a preset booking upon check in. Palace pool was nice and food was great. I do however agree that hospitality do lack at times in restaurants. I must add that the managers welcomed staff upon check in and showed ways to rooms. One pity is the slow housekeeping. Our rooms were still 14:30 untouched. Consider servicing rooms between 11:00-13:00. Pity that high tea services were not available as this was advertised on booking confirmation. In conclusion I must say that one thing that needs improvement is the general security in and around the hotel. There are no controls in who enters hotel lifts. Anyone from outside can follow you until your room. No checks at hotel entrance and anyone can enter hotel. No security cameras in room hallways. We had to contact security as one person was following us from the valley of waves right up to our rooms. This was very scary. Staff was quick to respond, but left us with no option but to stay in our rooms. No back up system to see who followed us.

We booked a luxury family suite for one night, which was too short to make the most of the palace and suncity. The palace architecture is stunning and mesmerizing. Our room was located in the elephant wing and was very spacious, spotless and comfortable. Breakfast was a generous spread. My kids were delighted to find sushis for breakfast! However, we were quite dissapointed with the level of service. Check in was smooth but slow. No one welcomed us we had to find our way and its easy to get lost at the palace it being so huge! No one really to explain how suttles work, the activities around and how to get there. We got lost trying to find the royal bath( adult pool), lack of signage around the palace. The personnel seemed to be laidback and absent or maybe even understaff. For a hotel of this standing and price - it greatly lacks service and attention to customers, excluding the girls at the spa and Salon who were able to match expectations. We would hestitate to come back. They really need to train existing staff, recruit more employees and improve quality of service.

This is the forth time we have stayed here - the last time being about 10 years ago but the service level has slipped down considerably. Disappointing to note that in the breakfast room every morning our table without water (or never offered some) on each table despite the heat, salt cellars dont work, butter dishes empty - at a buffet environment why is this hard to do? The breakfast offering is good and the better meal we had in the whole hotel. Meals around the pool were less than average - all lacking balance, flavor and cooking skills with meat and burgers overdone. Key cards often not working, credit on key cards not working and being told by Reception staff to call someone else to sort it out???? The rooms are lovely though, clean and spacious with very good beds. Elephant bar service is slow - wine brought without ice bucket, without ice and waited too long for other drinks and glasses. Pool service also slow and often saw staff eating or sitting on their phones! In a hotel of this caliber it was a surprise to see such lacksdaisy service which should be really sharp, professional and en point.
