Tenerife Holidays

Float in volcanic rock pools, dine at the foothills of mountains and stargaze under the highest peak in Spain on sun-drenched Tenerife holidays.

There’s your first glimpse of Mount Teide from one of Costa Adeje’s Blue Flag beaches, late-night shopping along boardwalks filled with designer shops and al fresco dining on terraces overlooking the Atlantic. Beaches of black and gold line this volcanic island, skies are so clear rumour has it you can see Saturn’s rings from Mount Teide National Park, and a climate of ‘Eternal Spring’ means basking on a beach and getting out on crystal clear waters are where most of the fun is to be had.

Holidays to Tenerife can be as lively or tranquil as you like. Dance until the early hours along Playa de las Americas strip, cocoon yourself in a decadent spa or bring the kids along to luxury family-friendly hotels where plenty of land and water activities keep little ones occupied and teenagers away from their phone. You’ll find Instagram-worthy content in capital Santa Cruz with its space-age style opera house and then colonial architecture and traditional tapas in La Laguna. One moment you’ll be spotting wild pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins, the next hiking through laurel forests, lava fields and vineyards. Urban strips of sand are lined with palm trees and spiky cacti, beaches are strung with straw-topped parasols under a burning sun and dramatic cliffs lead out to secluded rocky coves.

Explore Mount Teide and Masca

Dedicate a day to exploring Tenerife’s looming Mount Teide and visiting the pretty village of Masca. You’ll board a panoramic bus that allows 360-degree through its windows as you travel, beginning the day with a morning in Masca, reached by a winding and scenic road. There’s time to appreciate the dramatic gorge and palm trees which extend to the sea and the pretty houses here. The next destination is the National Park of Las Cañadas del Teide, a UNESCO World Heritage Site incorporating the highest mountain peak in Spain, Mount Teide. Costa Adeje Many of our favourite luxury hotels are located in the south’s Costa Adeje so you can make the most of beautiful beaches, watersports, luxury accommodation and upmarket restaurants and nightlife. Here you’ll find Playa del Duque Beach where white sands lap turquoise waters and stylish restaurants and cafés line the back of the beach.

Exploring Tenerife For family fun we recommend the Thai-themed Siam waterpark complete with wave machines, huge slides and exhilarating vertical drops, and a boat trip from Los Cristianos or Los Gigantes for wild dolphin and whale watching tours. La Laguna, once the capital of Tenerife is a charming day trip filled with 16th-18th-Century architecture and the chance to experience authentic island life, browsing bookstores and antique shops and stopping for traditional tapas. If you’re interested in hiking you’ll love the Masca Valley where a trek through waterfalls, rock faces and caves leads you to the spectacular black sands of Masca Bay.

Getting around The most convenient way to see most of the island is with car hire, so that you can get to see the best of both the south and north. If you’re planning to stay mostly in-resort but still want to get out and about a little, bus and taxi services are readily available. Public buses are called Titsa and cover most of the island.
