Hotel Monteleone, New Orleans
A storied hotel whose lobby is said to mark the beginning of the New Orleans’ famous French Quarter, few American hotels can claim such a rich history as the Hotel Monteleone.
The Hotel Monteleone is a fabled institution of New Orleans. Since it threw open its (rather grand) doors in 1886, literary legends and cultural icons have been crossing its threshold ever since, including Truman Capote, Ernest Hemingway, Tennessee Williams, and William Faulkner.

The hotel is “old fashioned” in all the good ways. Quality, style and excellent service. The staff are amazing and make you feel that nothing is too much trouble. From the door staff onwards, it was amazing. The rooms are small-ish and this is made worse by the growing trend of packing too many chairs into a small room. But they are clean, well appointed and the air con was effective. The bathroom was generous in size and very clean. We had a breakfast on the last day of our stay and it was amazing. Very close to the main area of the city so very convenient for walking out to see things and then popping back for a rest.

The hotel is as good as advertised. It is one block off of Bourbon Street. It is an easy walk to the Park along the Mississippi River. The service at the hotel was excellent. Earl, the pool Operator was a highlight of our trip. He took care of all of his guests at the pool, with a smile and helpful information. The Carousel Bar needs no further comments. It was the best.

I recently traveled with my family to New Orleans from NYC. We had an amazing breakfast at Criollo in the lobby of the Hotel Monteleone. Ms. Holli Freeman is a wonderful host who along with our server Kathy ensured that we received impeccable service, delicious food, and true Southern hospitality! They are doing it right at the Monteleone. Thank you Holli!
