As we move out of ‘engagement season’ (Christmas through to Valentines Day), many couples are inevitably starting to think about where they’d like to celebrate their newlywed bliss after the wedding is all done and dusted.
We’ve analysed the last two years of our booking data, combined with global search trends, to reveal that classic exotic honeymoon destinations across the Indian Ocean are set to see the biggest influx of lovebirds in 2025.
“In the years following the pandemic, we’ve seen a trend in honeymoon destinations that offer couples seclusion from the busy and hectic return to ‘real life’, with destinations that have stunning natural beauty being particularly popular.
We’re seeing a rising demand in honeymoon interest across the Indian Ocean region, with both page views and honeymoon bookings in locations like the Seychelles, Mauritius and Sri Lanka significantly up year-on-year. It seems that for the year ahead couples are prioritising bigger-budget, bucket list adventure experiences for their honeymoon travels.” Caroline Child, Marketing Director, Kuoni
‘Unspoiled’ Indian Ocean gem named top trending 2025 honeymoon destination
With a trending score of 83.3 out of 100, the Seychelles takes the top spot as 2025’s most sought-after honeymoon hotspot. The archipelago, known for its pristine Maldives-esque beaches, diverse landscapes and rich Creole culture, is a less crowded alternative to more traditional honeymoon destinations like Santorini and Bali.
The Indian Ocean’s 2025 appeal doesn’t stop there – Mauritius follows closely in second place with a trending score of 78 out of 100. Recently named Tripadvisor’s Best Honeymoon Destination for 2025, the biodiverse African nation is undoubtedly a fantastic place for newlyweds to celebrate, with luxurious resorts, endless activities on offer and impressive natural beauty and beaches alike.
Completing the top three, Italy also continues to draw the eyes of honeymooners, no doubt in part due to its historic association with romance and steady stream of celebrity nuptials providing honeymoon inspiration to the masses.
