LUX* Saint Gilles

Five-star beachside bliss

Beachfront luxury, combining Creole influences with an elegant colonial design in verdant gardens.

This is the only luxury resort to have direct access to the beautiful L’Hermitage beach with its calm coral-sheltered lagoon that’s perfectly safe for swimming. Little extra features include the retro-style ice cream hut with fresh local flavours and homemade waffle cones baked as you wait. And if you’re willing to explore, this is a resort full of fun surprises – you could even spot a message in a bottle on the path to your room that might contain a gift. LUX* Saint Gilles is also one of the best resorts for whale watching (June to October).

Why we love LUX* Saint Gilles

  • It’s La Réunion’s only five-star resort, with an enviable setting among the filao trees on a stunning sheltered beach and lagoon

  • There are those LUX* extra touches, from the tiny stall that serves homemade ice cream to gifts on the path to your room

  • The superb food in the three restaurants and the pool bar covers every base from haute gastronomie to fish curry on the beach

  • There’s plenty to do, including yoga sessions and rum tastings for the grown-ups

With three different but equally inviting restaurants, a bar with an appealing snack menu and 24-hour room service, the dining scene is an authentic delight.

La Cuisine
The main buffet restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner, offers international cuisine alongside Creole dishes, accompanied by local musicians in the evening.

Orangine
This intimate evening venue serves up gourmet dishes with a local twist accompanied by the finest of South African and French wines.

La Plage
With a large deck overlooking the lagoon, La Plage offers traditional Creole cuisine and local drinks such as vanilla-flavoured rum at lunch and dinner.

Le Bar
Open for drinks from early until late, the lively poolside bar is also a laidback venue for a light lunch or afternoon snack.

If you’re one for life’s simpler pleasures, a freshly made marlin sandwich beside the pool at Le Bar is hard to beat.

Everything possible is recycled, from wastewater which is used to irrigate the grounds to kitchen oil which is turned into biofuel.
